Special Recognition
One of the basic objectives of the Foundation is to commemorate individuals who have made significant contributions to cryptology. As a result of their long-term, intimate knowledge of relevant people and events, members of the Foundation and its Officers and Board of Directors are uniquely qualified to participate in this process. It is therefore appropriate that the Foundation undertake various means of extending special recognition where it is deserved. The principal such activity will be our participation in the National Cryptologic Museum Hall of Honor, which was dedicated by the Director, NSA, in the Museum in 1999. The initial inductees were recommended by the Foundation and included the principal founders of U.S. cryptology. This process is continuing annually, with the Foundation recommending a slate of honorees to the Agency for consideration along with nominees from other sources. It is intended that future nominees be kept to a carefully selected few. The Chairman Emeritus of the Foundation Board, Maj. Gen. John E. Morrison, Jr. USAF (Ret) was inducted into the Hall of Honor in 2001. Apart from the Hall of Honor, it is also fitting that the Foundation recognizes other individuals who have made unusual contributions to the cryptologic effort. The assistance of corporate contributors and others who have served as benefactors of the Foundation is also to be recognized appropriately. The Foundation has also invited our members to honor former colleagues now deceased by making special contributions to the NCMF and having the honorees recorded in the In Memoriam Registry on display in the Museum. This activity will continue and be appropriately publicized.
